Geneva: Alarm over growing insecurity

A few days ago the son of an American diplomat was attacked in Geneva. The young man was beaten by several criminals and suffered serious fractures and injuries.

The incident caused alarm among public authorities and officials of international organizations based in the city and diplomatic missions.

It was reported that United Nations said to its personnel in that city to avoid going out at night and advised diplomats and tourists to take precautions while going to the city center.

The Swiss central government expressed its concern to Genovese authorities for the increase of crimes recorded in that city during the last months. These do not preclude the adoption of additional security measures for the city to recover its usual security and tranquility levels.

A city, once very safe, is today the center of street crimes, some of them very violent.
